So the eval board uses 1 IC that is 8GB 16 bits x 516M since those are expensive ( like x7-10 more expensive) i am thinking of uesing 2 IC with 4GB each with a 8bits x516M yea routeing will be way harder but i am not sure if it will work.Is my setup here feasible or just something i am drafting on paper / unrealistic ? NOTE: this is DDR3 and all will be on the same PCB

yes, it should be possible to use 2x 8bit instead of 1x 16bit

I don't know what you are using, but some software is able to detect bigger memory automatically, but yes, sometimes you may need to set bigger size in the code or pass it through some parameters
