100A Current Capability by using Vias in a 6 layer PCB where only 5 layers are used to carry current

Neetusha , 01-29-2026, 04:22 PM
Hi everyone, I need your guidance in designing a 100 A PCB board. I am using Cu pour to connect 2 mosfets of 100 A. Are the vias to be placed at the very beginning of the plane near one MOSFET and the other set at the very end of the plane near the other MOSFET? Or can they be distributed throughout the plane? Is aspect ratio of 4:1 acceptable for a 2 mm PCB . My manufacturer is JLCPCB. I have read the usual manufacturable aspect ratio of vias is 6:1 to 8:1. But I wanted vias that can carry 2. 5 A each. Also, how should the placement look like? Can it be like it is in the image. The board is 2m. The via hole diameter is 0.5mm and Internal Pad diameter is 1.524 mm. Via current is 2.4398 A

100A going forward, but also must return.
100A through the board and using 100A MOSFETs? Why care about the board as smoke will come out of the MOSFETs.
If you want to split the current, you want the vias as close to the source and destination as possible.
Via aspect ratio can be 8:1 for class 3 and 10:1 for class 2.

Hi. thank you. It is for an inverter. So there is a return path which is different from this path.
The MOSFET is 150 A rated so the MOSFET can carry the current. I actually meant I wanted the path to be capable of carrying 100 A
My concern was regarding the board.
I am not sure if a via of an aspect ratio of 4:1 can be used, because it is larger hole size via than an 6: 1. I believe 8:1 is the aspect ratio of minimum via size. Typically they give a range of 6:1 to 8:1 for the via aspect ratio. So Is a via of 4:1 okay?
I need to recheck how close my vias are to the MOSFETS. I will recheck and metion later
But are parallel vias arranged in 4 columns okay?

"*It is for an inverter. So there is a return path which is different from this path. *" -- Think about EMC!
"*The MOSFET is 150 A rated so the MOSFET can carry the current.*" -- 150A peak? I generally do not look at the 'rated' current of a MOSFET. I ² * Rdson * Rj... or in other words - how hot does it get with the current.
2mm thick board 4:1 aspect gets a 0.5mm hole -- no problem what so ever.

Thank you so much. I will look into these. But please can you guide me whether this parallel arangemnt of vias in 4 columns okay. If required I can bring the measurements of distances and all

It would make the connection more symmetrical.
