Why Wont the pad and pin connect?
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 01:57 PM
So I have a ground plane poured on top of the PCB, but for some reason the pad and pin of the ESP-32 wont connect to it. Any idea why? Attached the schematic, PCB, and polygon pour for reference
FuzzyOtter , 06-16-2024, 02:27 PM
You are telling it to pour over only polygons of the same net. Change the pour setting.

Still didnt connect the ground pad to the ground

Why is your top layer black and bottom layer red? I don't understand your nonstandard color scheme and it's making your PCB difficult to look at.
FuzzyOtter , 06-16-2024, 02:46 PM
Did you repour the polygon after changing the setting?
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 02:48 PM
Just started looking at it and wondering the same thing, I just don't understand what's going onCould need a repour, or maybe you need a via to make the GND connection ? I don't understand what's supposed to be connected where/how

What is standard colour scheme?
FuzzyOtter , 06-16-2024, 03:07 PM
Red for layer 1 / top, blue for layer 2 / bottom. This is also the Altium default, so you had to change something to get to where you are now.

Hope this makes things a bit more clear

The pad in the middle of the MCU is supposed to be connected to GND. But for some reason, it has an airwire to the GND pin of the MCU and I dont know why
FuzzyOtter , 06-16-2024, 03:10 PM
Does altium provide any warning or errors in your schematic? Do you notice any red lines under your ground pins?
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 03:10 PM
Just a warning about the pin type

Should I just change it to a Power Pin?
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 03:12 PM
its currently an I/O pin
QDrives , 06-16-2024, 04:08 PM
What is the thermal relief setting of that pad?
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 04:47 PM
its uncheckewd

Probably something with the symbol. hard to help you like that. Try different symbol/footprint and see if it works. Also try putting via down. I would put via-s down anyway assuming you have GND plane below.
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 07:38 PM
Heres the libraries with the schematics, the part is ESP-blfsf
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 08:28 PM
You've got two pads in one
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 08:28 PM
so one's blocking the other
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 08:28 PM
i'd guess
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 08:47 PM
could it also be the reason its not mounting to the gnd plane
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 09:06 PM
Yes, try deleting the pad and then update the component
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 09:27 PM
Now it keeps saying unknown pin

Arkev , 06-16-2024, 09:45 PM
Have you deleted the P$1 or the 41_GND ?
Arkev , 06-16-2024, 09:47 PM
You do need one of the two, probably the P$1The issue is with them overlapping - one's trying to connect to GND while the other, likely with no net, blocks it
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 10:38 PM
I tried deleting both
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 10:38 PM
Both had the same error
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 11:06 PM
Also, why are these red X's showing up
The Chosen One , 06-16-2024, 11:06 PM
That might be part of the reason why I cant get it to route to GND
Arkev , 06-17-2024, 03:36 PM
It's a conflict but you should have a message explaining it
QDrives , 06-17-2024, 03:53 PM
Those cross symbols are DRC error notifications. You changed the colors here too, it should be green. The yellow circles indicate a clearance problem. As for the problem that a pin cannot be found - that is the mismatch between the schematic symbol (on the schematic) and the footprint (on the board or library).
