SOM altium footprint

corlas , 11-09-2024, 04:37 PM
Hi,
I'm using the TinyRex module and I really don't know, how to create the footprint for it.
Can anyone tell me the best way to do this please?
I can make the module into a single footprint but then I can't generate PaP and BoM for the connectors...
I can also make symbol for every connector but then I have to adjust the connectors every time I work on a new design and there is a high chance of making a mistake.

Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

"...but then I have to adjust the connectors..." -- What do you mean with adjust? Do you mean position?

If you mean position:
- Create footprint for the connectors
- Create a footprint for the SOM, where you have some points that you can snap to. This allows you to add the 3D model of it too. This component could be set to "standard no bom".
- Position the SOM on the board.
- Position the connectors using the 'snap points'
Actually, You may even be able to add snappoints in the footprint. I have never tried it though.

"What do you mean with adjust? Do you mean position?" yes, mostly the position adjustment...

hmm... this sounds like a good idea, I think I will try it, thanks

you should be able to copy and paste the components between projects, just use the same designators. also grouping them together may help. That's how I would do that.
