odd footprint behaviour when at 45deg

Sniper2 , 03-12-2024, 03:22 PM
So in normal mode footprints act cormal and follow courtyards and clearance rules.
But when 1 element is at 45deg or 45 +90×n then I can't get them to stay close to each other . Best I could do was like 1cm for 0402 .......
Any tips ?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you editing footprints and rotate pads, or are you in the layout and try to place components with rotation? Either way, you can edit the grid with Ctrl+G, or manually edit the position of a component in its Properties.

I usually start placing big components with 1mm grid, and then reduce the grid to 0.1-0.25mm for smaller components.

As an alternative, you can add working guides in the Properties of the layout that help you snap components.

so here is the situation:
Sniper2 , 03-12-2024, 05:52 PM
in PCB editor i have some footprints that i known to work well when in 90*n position
Sniper2 , 03-12-2024, 05:52 PM
but when i go a 45+90*m the DRC does not allow me to move them as close as i would want
Sniper2 , 03-12-2024, 05:53 PM
it is like the actual courtyard is still there and rashing with other courtyards

I assume you do not have a 3D body with those footprints.
If not, change the rules for the clearance.
Design / Rules --> Placement / Component clearance.
Or disable component pushing - Tools / Preferences --> PCB editor / Interactive routing / Dragging / Component pushing.

I di have a 3d body
Sniper2 , 03-13-2024, 04:48 AM
But it also seems to visualy rotate
Kristóf Kanics , 03-13-2024, 09:57 AM
Can you show a photo of what you are trying to do?
Robert Feranec , 03-13-2024, 10:49 AM
Maybe it is something with 3D collision? Maybe I would setup an exception for that component in rules (?) But I think it should work.
QDrives , 03-13-2024, 07:57 PM
Well, the 3D body should rotate if the footprint is rotated.
Do you have a screenshot of the problem?
If you select the component, how 'big' is the square?
Sniper2 , 03-13-2024, 08:03 PM
all squeres tilted at 45deg but they still seem to hit each other somehow
QDrives , 03-14-2024, 04:40 PM
How do they hit?
- Component pushing?
- Component clearance?
- Other?
Do you have an error message?
Do you have a screenshot?
Sniper2 , 03-14-2024, 05:04 PM
i will make a screen shot at work
it hits a wall , a rectangular invisible wall
with CTRL R or it was with ALT R i can place them where i need to and DRC does not complain
QDrives , 03-15-2024, 07:57 PM
Just did some tests with Altium...
I would say that this is a bug in Altium that is related to component pushing.
I normally do not do component pushing.
The shortcut key is just "R".
