Does Parameter Manager exists in Orcad?

GEORGE_CH , 11-06-2024, 11:17 AM
Hi all. Does anybody know if there is the option of generic parameter manager (like in Altium) in the schematic libraries of Orcad?
I would like to rework an existing library and add a series of paramters to all of the components. Is there a way to do it at once and avoid to type all these parameters again and again?

I dont have it installed, but yes, I believe it exists

Thanks Robert! I will try to find it

Hi Robert, coming back on this topic for your reference. It is possible to do it with scripting one parameter at a time but it is registered to all parts of the library unless it already exists where it is skipped and the value inside remains intact.

it's probably not the right way to do it but I always copy whole design properties table into excel sheet and edit what I need to do in there

then you can just paste it back to OrCad

Hi Sir James, how do you copy them and how do you paste them back? Do you refer to the schematic library Part Properties?
SirJames , 11-08-2024, 03:19 PM
My method probably wont help you because I didnt refer to library part properties but to design object properties. It's a table of all object's properties in selected page or whole design. You can open it by right clicking on single page or on whole project folder and selecting Edit Object Properties.
For example, when I want to edit description of only 0603 100k resistors I dont do it in library becuase I have one library symbol for 0603 resistors of all different values. I open Object properties of all symbols, copy row with descriptions into Excel and edit it there.

My mistake is that I have one library symbol for all resistors 😄

Ok, got it! You was refering to object properties. If you make a separate symbol for each part number the library will be more "reusable". 🙂
