Fiber weave effect

robertjzima , 06-23-2018, 03:29 PM
Hello everybody. Few days ago I was trying to "examine" one quite complex board. I saw that a lot of very high-speed interfaces are routed by some kind of strange routing technique, as you can see on the pictures. I was doing a research using google and I found quite interesting articles about something which is called fiber weave effect and Zig-Zag routing technique. Picture with blue tracks is the example. I have some questions about this:

Robert, have you ever used this technique?
In which case you recommend to use it?

We can clearly see that routing technique on the board with green tracks is not exactly the zig-zag routing. What kind of routing is that? Is this just an another way of dealing with the fiber weave effect?

Thanks,
Robo

Robert, no, I have never used this.

PS: I have seen it on the latest server boards ... I am still looking for a big company to sponsor a course created based on this kind of server boards

I know the theory but i can't get over how it looks. feels like somebody was very drunk when they routed it :P
