Need advice with power consumption (TinyRex Solo)
eugene128 , 12-13-2019, 05:17 AM
Hello.
We noted that in accordination with datasheet TinyRex Solo requires 3W on peak (without GPU).
However in PCB it requires 3 different power sources (transformed from 5V5 level): 5V 1.5A + 3V3 2A + 2V5 0,35A
If we understand right it requires 5V5 4A = 22W (from baseboard to module).
For what other 19W ?
Is it uses to supply GPU and USB devices?
We need to get some clarification for this.
Thanks!

Hi,
When you say 5V 1.5A,3V2A etc Are you referring the Switching/LDO Regulator's specification? If possible add an image where it's mentioned so.
Thanks.

Hello, Lakshmi.
No, we are referring the TinyRex's scheme. We are looking at the labels "DESIGN NOTE" (at the top-right corner) of each power connection.
Sure, I've attached TinyRex's requirements (pdf file)

Hey,
Please go through this:
We made couple of power measurements. These are just to give you an idea of iMX6 TinyRex power consumption. More results will come when we have the complete software support, e.g. these tests don't in
It's said that power consumption for single thread cpu and 1 memory.
That doesn't mean that design has to be min. power consumption. You need to look at part/IC's datasheet n should calculate the current consumption

It's clear
Thank you for advice!

Do not forget, power supply has to be able to deliver the peak currents which are usually much higher than continuous currents. So I would not just add the numbers, that is not an accurate calculation.
