Why the DCMI for OV2640 camera bus is lifted 2 bit

As I have inspect through a lot of schematic, include the red OV2640 breakout board, the esp32 cam FPC connector diagram. What I can see here is the output D0, D1 of OV2640 is left NC, D2 is connected with DCMI_D0 in the MCU part, D3 to DCMI_D1,... Why this is the case, why all the bus is shifted two bits higher? Can this works on STM32F407VGT6 with DCMI 8 bits? Many thanks.

You mean Y0 and Y1 are left unconnected of the OV2640.OV_D0 is connected to Y2.

Yes, why? I have checked a ton of schematics and it's still the same: ignore the first 2 bits. Here is some other boards that have the same pin config:https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006864203238.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2frahttps://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006865105936.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2fraYou can view the schematics at the final review image of the products.

Did you read the datasheet?https://www.uctronics.com/download/cam_module/OV2640DS.pdf

Oh wow, I completely forgot about this. Thank you sir, I thought the default is D0 - D7

By connecting the upper 8, you can keep doing 10bits as the lower bit do not realy matter. I would not leave then floating though.
